TUSCANY - Municipality of ROCCASTRADA - IMMOBILIARE MARE exclusively offers for sale the Castle of Torniella dating back to 1000-1100. The castle is located on the fortress on top of the village of Torniella, in the enchanting Val di Farma, about 40 minutes by car from Siena and the sea of the beautiful Maremma Coast. The property includes the manor house and the farm building of the Estate. It originally belonged to the Counts Ardengheschi, Vassals of the Aldobrandeschi Family. In 1255, it was attacked at night, besieged for seven days, and then devastated by the army of the Republic of Siena, which seized it and in the 15th century assigned it to the Sienese Patrician Family named Malavolti. Some few decades later it belonged, together with the Estate, for centuries, until the beginning of the 20th Century, to the Sienese Counts Bulgarini d'Elci, whose noble coat of arms is still present on the lintel of the portal of the representative hall named Sala delle Udienze. Until about 1940 the Castle belonged to Marchesa Cavalcanti. It consists of four buildings joined together at right angles, each with three floors. Each floor is about 760 sq. m. in size. From the large courtyard inside the four buildings there is access to the gardens.
At present, the Castle is divided into five apartments on the second floor, a completely independent apartment on the mezzanine floor, and three apartments, including one attic apartment, on the second floor. Each apartment is served by an autonomous heating system powered by natural gas. There are a total of 13 rooms, 12 bathrooms, 9 kitchens, five halls, including the above-mentioned "sala delle udienze", three of them having large fireplaces.
Further there are three rooms on the second floor, two of which are very large and served by two bathrooms. These rooms can be used to constitute a tenth apartment, or rooms, or either for other uses.
On the ground floor, the Castle comprises fourteen funds, twelve of which open onto the courtyard. Among them are included: an old Oil Mill, still equipped with its giant wooden press and huge stone millstone, now used to serve aperitifs and hors d'oeuvres at weddings, conferences, concerts, as well as gala dinners and luncheons; the Stable; a Billiard Room, served by two bathrooms, which (with access also from the Inner Court) are also used at wedding luncheons, conferences, concerts, luncheons, and gala dinners held in the Court and Garden; and finally, the Cellar, which opens into two rooms, dug into the rock, where the temperature is constantly 5-7 degrees. On the other hand, three vast rooms, including the Stable, which can also be used for public exercises, directly and indirectly overlook the Castle Square.
The Court features a Loggia on one side, with elegant stained-glass windows that illuminate the hall with columns and arches in front of the Audience Hall.
In the center of the Court is the large cistern with trachyte parapets that the defenders of the Castle drew on to the point of exhaustion during the seven-day Sienese siege of August 1255.
On two sides, the Castle has a garden of about 800 square meters arranged on two floors. A swimming pool can be built in the perimeter strip of the lower one. The panoramic view of the Upper Garden is breathtaking.
